the guest part 3
(the Guest feels the rush of the day escape from her body. Her limbs feel like borrowed pieces of clothing, hanging loosely off her torso, as if casually placed by a passer by. It is chilly in VolgoGrad. The nearby river had a deep mist hovering above, refracting the moonlight as it cast it's glow. The Guest felt the sound of Beethoven's moonlight Sonata run through her mind, as her mind seemed to relax with the same idleness as her limbs. She suddenly remembered what she wanted to tell PeePeeDoc, the thought that was nagging her all day, but she kept forgetting to relay. She sat by the candle and began her letter.))
My Dear PeePeeDoc,
I heard a strange story from a friend of mine Alexandra. (Nikolai's older sister, who married the gambler from St. Petersburg!) It's a beguiling tale, and one that deserves retelling!
Apparently a century ago, a shop set sail from Belarus, with the handsomest crew imaginable! They were 60 strapping men, with the greenest eyes and biggest muscles, belonging to the Jewish faith. They sailed the high seas and bravery many a storm till they rolled up onto the shores of a land very very far away, where snow was replaced by coconut trees along long stretches of sand. This is where the story gets quite scandalous! These brave warriors had deep intimacies with local women and, if whispers in corridors are to be believed, even sired children whose legitimacy is to be questioned! The warriors have long since returned to their home country, but the children faced a terrible fate. They were stunned by the locals, till one brave lady promised to prove their innocence, that they were truly wed to these warriors, by walking through fire. Rumour has it, she successfully walked through fire and those children were absorbed into the local culture as "chitapavan Brahmins" which is a local term for purified by fire!
I have never heard a tale as scandalous as this! An entire community of, if I may use the word, bastards!
Do you feel these tales are to be believed? Can you imagine how bizarre these offspring might appear to look? A combination of different races mixing like pieces of lace at the hands of a careless seamstress!
It is time for me to put my pen away.
I bid you good night. I hope the sea sickness has settled, and HMS Karajan is making steady progress.
Much love
Madame D
