Bombay heat is like living next to a tandoor. You can feel your eyes burn and ground cry below your feet, because the very impact of your foot fixes the burn firmly into the ground, like a horse being branded. There is simply no trace of rain! "If you look at the sky and find enough blue to make a sailor's suit, means it isn't going to rain," my mother used to declare. I spent minutes wondering what size of sailor this might be. Is he pint size? Is he of average build? Is he a giant, mythical enough to influence the weather forecast, stencilled in the shape of his uniformed body? Well today the sky is blue enough to make uniforms for Her Majesty's fleet, and those of all the Dominions and their subsidiaries. The entire Empire can roam around in blue suits, as clear as the sky, as crisp as if they have been pressed firmly by a burning hot iron that is the Sun!
