Good morning dear OB,
So the story of last night and how events transpired and stars aligned, where I actually did end up time travelling and ended up in an inn in Paris......
In laws, parents and the kids were supposed to be at 2801 for dinner, to celebrate end of grade 7 exams:) Kurush Tarapor (husband of English tuition teacher, Annabel) called for some assistance at the beginning of the week and I said "hey Kurush, why don't you and Anna also come?" (They are actually Aunty-Uncle category, but since I've met them in this capacity, we stick to first names, despite my internal conflict.) Kurush in his usual style, "I will come anywhere to hear antu play, so I'm in." Annabel had other plans which he made her cancel.
At 6pm Pervez Modi, a pianist par excellence, who is a full time concert pianist based out of the Black Forest in Germany (we can travel there one day, ya?) called asking if I would like to meet him at Bombay Gym for dinner. His father who was MaMo's patient and whom I had anesthetised several times for SPC etc., finally passed away, and Pervez had completed all the ten day prayers. He is flying back to Frieboug day after. I said "pervez, I can't believe I have to say no, because all these golden oldies are coming over, but would YOU be ok to come and meet them?" Pervez himself is 60 going on 25 years.
Pervez did his usual pervez hemming and hawing and then said "ok, but you know my problem...." Pervezs problem is that while God gave him a HUGE brain, he exorcised his navigatory lobe which leaves him in a panic state on the road. (Very similar to yours truly). So i said "let me call you back."
Quick call to Kurush "Kurush, possible to fetch my friend pervez modi, you know, we had gone for his concert at ncpa in Decem...."
"Listen dhanwanti I will go to the moon to fetch pervez, drop me the pin and say no more."
At 8pm senior drs. Lad + ahilya, senior rajwades + Ma + Gayatri, pervez + Kurush all stumbled in. After that what ensued was mayhem! Stories about flying, landing planes with engine failures, indo china wars, surgical feats, incising abscesses at 13000 feet, concerts in Warsaw on a snowy evening, concerts where the conductor has got food poisoning and the pianist has played both solo piano and conducted at the same time, children sitting mesmerized listening, children going to their room and giggling and playing, smells of Chinese food....and then.....the music. Pervez agreed to play and the entire group got pulled into a time capsule, strapped in, and hurled into a tiny inn in Paris, where people of different professions and religions, different generations and ages, thoughts and philosophies gathered and got drawn into the story of the free world.....the 95 year old and the 10 year old.... Music that transcends time, space and language. Music of the free world. Written by a Polish refugee, based in Paris, pouring his heart out to the most free place in the world, at the time. Oh OB, at the risk of sounding crazy, to you, how can I tell you I saw God. He was pouring his choicest blessings on us, telling us to live consciously and see his Greatness.
I will say no more or you will think 'this girl has finally lost it.'
Pervez has given antu, puru and me the best advice in life:
- Discipline
- Never give up
- Stay humble

Kurush told us a fantastic story. One day he was flying to Delhi with a young bengali co pilot, when one of the engines failed. Now they had to emergency land, and the closest two options were Dhaka, and then Calcutta. Kurush took a call saying Dhaka was foreign soil, so if possible, he would stretch it a bit and land in Calcutta?
The air traffic control said "as we can see port engine has gone." Bengali pilot, in bong style "both engine gone?"
"Nahi bhai, port, not both," clarified Kurush, sorting out the Bong accent.
With adrenaline rushing through their systems, they landed this plane in Kolkotta and heaved a sigh of relief. Annabel called kurush, checking that he was ok. Bengali father called the co pilot and checked in on him. Then Bengali mother took the phone "beta, landed in Kol? Do won thing, go meet won noice girl there. Very noice girl." Bengali pilot tells Kurush in frustration "sir, mothers are mad or what? Here we almost died?????!!!"
Six months later Bengali pilot calls Kurush, "sir please come for my wedding. As it turns out, I did land up meeting that girl since we happened to be there. She is going to be my wife?"
This was a plane that was supposed to land in Delhi!
