on slaughtering a goat or sheep

I don't slaughter the goat/sheep. (We are not allowed to slaughter a lamb). No one does the slaughter himself/herself, except a few.

We have a butcher do it. Most people ask the butcher to do it. We touch the sheep, say the prayer, look the other way, and the butcher does his stuff. The butcher is needed also to cut and prepare the meat for cooking. He does so as per the wishes of the people of the house. There are rules - the knife has to be sharp, so it hurts less, the blood has to go into a ditch, where it is covered with dirt (don't make a mess on the street), the other sheep should not see the slaughter, ideally, the sheep should be raised in the household it is to be slaughtered, so that there is a sense of 'sacrifice' of something one cares for, the sheep has to comforted. Unfortunately, many of us don't follow these rules.

The distribution is done after segregation and each piece is marked for the relative/neighbour/house it needs to go to.
